Right to Food Zine

The Right to Food Zine team is always looking for new volunteers including: writers, artists, and photographers of any skill/experience level, as well as volunteers to help with admin, distribution, social media, etc.. All zine meetings and volunteering can be done from home/virtually. All skill levels are welcome! You can learn more about the zine and see past issues at rtfzine.org.

Right To Food Zine’s mission is to promote the human right to food that is healthy, nutritious, affordable, and presented with dignity. Our voices reflect the diversity that is the Downtown Eastside. Our articles, research, and recipes speak to the DTES residents, social justice groups, and beyond. We inform our readers, while fostering the desire to know more and to become more engaged. As part of the DTES community, we strive to be a tool for community-building.

Artist & Designers: The role involves understanding the mission and context of the Right to Food Zine and giving it a high visual impact as it develops. Experience using InDesign is necessary in this role as well as experience working with any media which is suitable for print.

Writers: We want people who are interested in food security and social justice and are able to write articles / produce content for the zine. This role requires the volunteer to be able to attend occasional zoom meetings with the zine team.

If you’re interested in getting involved with the zine, you can contact the Editor, Shannon Hecker at rtfzine@gmail.com
