Renovation & Expansion Update
In recent news, we’re excited to report that the DTES NH has reached almost 80% of its fundraising goal for a much needed renovation and expansion project.
Employee Spotlight: Shaista
Having grown up in Pakistan, Shaista wanted to find a sense of community after moving to Vancouver. After searching for resources in the area, she soon became involved in our Family Drop-In program. From there, opportunities rose for her to further develop her leadership skills as an employee. Read more about Shaista’s involvement in the Neighbourhood House community here.
Impact Story: Meet Dianne
Dianne is a long-time resident of the Downtown Eastside community. She has been involved in numerous areas of the neighbourhood, including a dedicated participant of the Let’s Speak Up program. Read more about how Dianne appreciates the common goals of the Neighbourhood House community.
Partner Feature: SRO Collaborative
The SRO Collaborative and the Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House have been working together to deliver 200 hot meals weekly to four different SRO hotels, or single room occupancy units. We caught up with Jill of the SRO Collaborative to learn about the work they do and the partnership.
Where We Are Now: March 2021
With COVID-19 funding coming to an end on April 1st, the Neighbourhood House is having to slow services to pre-pandemic times due to reduced staffing and resources. The operational challenge comes at a time when our community members are facing a greater need. Find out how our programs are needing to adjust.
